Eubank vs Benn 2: The Rematch Weigh-In Drama Unfolds
The highly anticipated rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn is set to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, and the weigh-in drama has already begun. The two fighters, both coming off a thrilling points win in their first bout, have successfully made the middleweight limit of 11st 6lb (72kg) for the rematch.
However, the story doesn't end there. Eubank Jr. narrowly missed the middleweight limit by 0.05lb in their April fight, resulting in a £375,000 fine. This time, he avoided any hiccups and hit the scales at 11st 5lb (72kg).
Benn, who has primarily fought at welterweight, also came in at 11st 5lb (72kg). The weigh-in took place behind closed doors in London, and both fighters are bound by a rehydration clause that prohibits them from weighing more than 12st 1lb (77kg) on Saturday morning.
The ceremonial weigh-in, open to the public, will take place at York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday evening. Just like in April, there is a rehydration clause in place, meaning neither fighter can put on more than 10lb between Friday's weigh-in and Saturday morning.
Benn's team believes the rehydration clause provides a more level playing field. The weight disparity, with Benn jumping up two divisions for this contest, has been a hot topic in the build-up to both fights.
Fighters typically shed fat during their training camp to get close to the agreed weight limit. Prior to the weigh-in, they may dehydrate to lose the final bit of weight, allowing them to refuel with food and water more easily after the fight.
Eubank Jr. reveals that he usually gains about 14lb after a weigh-in, showcasing the strategic weight management involved in boxing.
