Unveiling the Sparkling Story of JLK Artistry in Kalgoorlie-Boulder
In a town known for its mining industry, a unique business venture has taken root, offering a rare and precious experience. Meet Julianne Karavitis, the talented jeweller behind JLK Artistry, who has brought a touch of magic to the region with her fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) approach.
Julianne's journey began in 2020 when she first moved to Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Little did she know that her decision to start her brand here would not only thrive but also create a special bond with the local community. Even after relocating to Perth in 2024, she chose to continue serving her loyal clientele, offering them a unique service that goes beyond the ordinary.
"The value of having someone come to you, on your terms, cannot be overstated," Julianne shared. "Traveling to Perth for specialized services can be a challenge. The process of bespoke design often requires multiple appointments. Having an expert like me bring that expertise to their doorstep is truly invaluable."
But here's where it gets controversial... Julianne's FIFO lifestyle has sparked a debate. Some may question the sustainability of such a model, but she stands firm in her belief that it's a win-win situation. "The community's support has been incredible. If it weren't for their loyalty, I wouldn't be making these trips. It's a beautiful cycle of giving and receiving."
And this is the part most people miss... Julianne's visits are meticulously timed with the town's bustling periods and major events. From Diggers & Dealers to the Goldfields Children Charity Ball and Christmas, she ensures her presence adds a touch of sparkle to these occasions. Her custom crafts, displayed and auctioned at the Charity Ball, have become an annual tradition, a testament to her commitment to the community.
"Living in Kalgoorlie, I understand the challenges, especially when it comes to accessing medical care for loved ones," Julianne revealed. "That's why I'm grateful for the support my business receives. It allows me to give back, and that's a privilege."
During her four-day visits, Julianne sets up pop-up displays in local boutiques or vacant stores, creating a temporary haven for her clients. Her most recent trip, just before Christmas, saw her showcase her latest collection at Wanderluxe & co on Hannan Street, where she met with clients and created special pieces.
Gabby Catford, a sales assistant at Wanderluxe & co and a past client herself, couldn't emphasize enough the impact Julianne has on the community. "It's evident how much she means to people here. The way she treats heirloom items with such care is truly special."
Julianne has no plans to stop bringing her unique service to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and she hopes to expand her reach to other regions soon. Her story is a reminder that sometimes, the most precious things are those that require a little extra effort and a lot of heart.
So, what do you think? Is Julianne's FIFO model a sustainable and valuable business practice? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
